The Warrior Spirit

“The LORD is a warrior; the LORD is his name.” – Exodus 15:3

“Courage, above all things, is the first quality of a warrior.” – Karl Von Clausewitz

“Each Warrior wants to leave the mark of his will, his signature, on important acts he touches. This is not the voice of ego but of the human spirit, rising up and declaring that it has something to contribute to the solution of the hardest problems, no matter how vexing!” – Pat Riley

This is the mark of David. This is the signature of his will. He will follow God into the unknown wilderness inhabited by voracious beasts not for the adrenaline rush of man vs. wild or for the sake of proving his manhood, but for the sole fact that His God goes there. And when he gets there he is not hesitant to wrestle with any Lion or Bear that may prey on the flock that he has grown to love and nurture. Then he’ll stand up to the beefy, over-sized bully called Goliath who despises David’s calling and the God who calls him.

David is not the egomaniac. And he may not be the Type T thrill seeker. But he will dare greatly, risk greatly, and believe greatly for his God. He is a feisty man who expects God to do what God promised to do and even gets a little “scrappy” about it at times.

David’s warrior spirit means he can rise up, step into his destiny and become everything God has called him to be. He doesn’t fret the hard times though that doesn’t suggest he is not prone to fear. It simply means he is not overtaken by it. He embraces the challenge. He is a warrior at heart. For that is the heart of his God. And he’s not intimidated to go after it.
